The Honda Vancouver Celebration of Light is back in 2025, and it's going to be bigger, better, and brighter than ever!

How did this explosive extravaganza start?

Back in 1990, a couple of bright sparks (pun intended) had the idea to light up Vancouver's skies. The event started as part of Vancouver's Expo 86 celebrations and was initially known as the "Symphony of Fire." The original concept was to create a fireworks competition that would attract international talent and boost tourism in Vancouver during the summer months.

Over the years, the event has grown in popularity, drawing larger crowds and featuring more sophisticated pyrotechnics. In 2008, Honda became the title sponsor, and the event was renamed the "Honda Celebration of Light."

It's one of the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world, attracting up to 400,000 spectators along the shores of English Bay each night of the shows.

Each participating country is represented by a team that designs and sets off a fireworks display choreographed to music. These displays are launched from barges in English Bay and judged by a panel of experts, with points awarded for artistry, choreography, and overall impact… what began as a modest fireworks competition has become a well-known and very popular summer event here in Van.

Over the years, the festival has been hosted by various organizations, each adding its own flair.

Rain or shine, the show has been a highlight for many Vancouverites for years.

From unexpected downpouring rain showers that nearly turned the beaches into a giant slip-n-slide to one year when a rogue seagull almost stole the show, it's never a dull moment.

Even a global pandemic couldn't stop the sparks forever. Locals were pretty crushed when COVID put the show on pause, but after a brief hiatus, the fireworks returned.

For this year, The Honda Celebration of Light 2025 is set to ignite the sky on July 19th, July 23rd; and July 26th. Three nights of pure, unadulterated pyrotechnic glory.

This isn't just about the fireworks (though let's be honest, that's a huge part of it).
