Burrard Inlet, with its stunning blend of urban landscapes and natural beauty, is a haven for a diverse array of wildlife. During the summer months, our boat tours offer a unique vantage point to observe these creatures in their natural habitat. From playful marine mammals to soaring birds, the inlet teems with life, providing unforgettable encounters for all nature enthusiasts.

One of the most common and beloved sights on Burrard Inlet are the harbour seals. These curious and playful animals can often be spotted lounging on rocky outcrops or swimming alongside boats.

During the day, particularly in the warmer months, they are more likely to be seen basking in the sun, making them an easy and delightful sighting for tour-goers. If you book a tour mid-day, you definitely have a chance of seeing these little guys!

Their expressive faces and playful antics make them a favourite among both locals and tourists alike - and we get close enough to not disturb our harbour seal friends, but to take some great photos.

The skies above Burrard Inlet are also alive with activity, hosting a variety of local bird species. Bald eagles (majestic symbols of the Pacific Northwest) can often be seen soaring overhead, their keen eyes scanning the waters for fish. Gulls, cormorants, and various shorebirds also frequent the area, each playing a vital role in the inlet's ecosystem.

Birdwatchers appreciate the opportunity our tours offer to observe these avian residents in their natural environment, especially during the early morning or late afternoon when they are most active - bring your binoculars!

Beyond the seals and birds, Burrard Inlet is also home to a variety of other fascinating creatures. Keep an eye out for the occasional sighting of large schools of jellyfish, as these fun little friends sometimes venture into the inlet's waters. Often, we’ll see jellies off the side of the boat. Even though we often see them along the coast, watching moon jellies glide through the water is always mesmerizing. These fascinating creatures are invertebrates, so they don't have a backbone—or any bones at all, actually. And surprisingly, these squishy little beings don't have a heart or a brain either!

Additionally, the intertidal zones along the shoreline provide habitat for a variety of invertebrates, such as crabs, sea stars, and anemones, offering a glimpse into the rich biodiversity of the beautiful region of Vancouver’s waters.

If you’d like to add crabbing on to your tour - let us know! We’d be more than happy to help you drop a trap and try send you home with some crabs.

To make the most of your wildlife viewing experience on Burrard Inlet, consider bringing a camera to capture those special moments. We will always encourage our tour-goers to observe the animals from a respectful distance, avoiding any disturbance to their natural behaviors.

With a bit of patience and a keen eye, you're sure to be rewarded with unforgettable encounters with the incredible wildlife that calls Burrard Inlet home.
